"Peace Warriors," produced and directed by Cambridge alumni, is receiving its World Premiere at the Capital Fringe Festival (www.peacewarriorsplay.com). The show opened on Friday, July 10 to a sold-out audience.
Set in the home of an academic couple, the play takes place over the course of an uncomfortable evening in which four academics and a precocious young girl come together to flaunt their peace activism and advance their ambitions. Set against the backdrop of Israeli/Palestinian politics on university campuses, the play charts three middle-of-the-night seductions and the consequences that are unleashed the next morning. When the inevitable confrontation happens, the trysts are exposed and everyone's politics gets truly personal.
With all that's going on this summer in Iran, Israel and the Middle East, "Peace Warriors" could not be a more timely examination of the Israel/Palestinian conflict and its complicated politics.
"Peace Warriors" was selected a Semi-finalist for this year's O'Neill Playwrights Conference and The New Republic recently called it "a savagely witty satire of elite American academics, and their attitudes towards the Middle East." The show is provocative, darkly comic, and already stirring up debate around the Fringe.
